Tarot Overview
Tarot, as we know it today, was introduced into southern France in the 15th century. In the 18th century, the most famous deck was created in France – Tarot de Marseille - a medieval-inspired designed deck. In the 19th century, the tarot took a turn as a tool of divination linking itself to a spiritual structure. 22 pathways connecting the ten spheres within the tree of life. Each pathway connected with a Hebrew letter, defines an archetype, a state of awareness and understanding. During the 19th and early 20th centuries few mystical orders developed further the techniques associated with combined esoteric wisdom as a means of creating a spiritual awareness, creating an understanding that spirit and matter are intertwined.
Today
Most of the Tarot deck includes 22 c,framework, and a dire circumstancesrds of major secrets, and 56 cards of 4 suits based on the 4 elements of fire/wands, air/swords, water/cups and earth/coins. I have chosen the Tarot as a framework for my own art of archetypes and symbols – as a framework for a unique deck named “River of Dreams” - that is iconic, poppy in its frame work, surrealistic at times and depicting the balancing act between shadow and light with humor and wonder. These archetypes and symbols are at times dark, erotic, depicting a balance between feminine masculine, union and conflict, orchestrated chaos and twist of fate where a good situation can turn upside down and a dire circumstances can become an opportunity!
